Day 5

Alright, Day 5.  Not sure I've ever made it this far into a new "eating plan" or "healthy living style" before.  I refuse to call this a diet.  I can eat bacon whenever I want, that my friends, is no diet!

Day 5 is when I usually give up/give in.  I either become convinced that nothing is ever going to change so I may as well throw in the towel or I'm convinced that I'm doing so great and I've learned so much that it's ok to budge the rules a little.

Well, I have news for you...I'm not convinced of either of those things so keep on truckin' I will.  Apparently I've also turned into Yoda...whatever...it's been a long week!

I found this link (click photo above) with 6 reasons Whole30 hasn't/doesn't "work" for people and I thought it was a great reminder that I can't undo in 30 days what took a few months/years to accumulate.  Yes, I'll notice a difference, but will the end of April bring about the end of my struggle with food, weight, laziness?  No, absolutely not.  It's just the beginning.

I know I'm most likely not going to have time to post tonight (because I'm headed to the trampoline place right after work) so I'll update as the day goes on.  If you want to read it all in one sitting check back Saturday morning.

Breakfast: Warmed up some of the frittata I made last week and froze, added a large side of sautéed squash, broccolette and thinly sliced sweet pots.  A small cup of fruit salad topped with toasted pecans/coconut.  I know this wasn't enough protein but this is all I had on hand.  I'll make up for it with my PWM.

oops...forgot the avocado! Glad I finally remembered!

Workout: Insanity day 5.  This is how all my dates with Shaun T end:

On the floor with my foam roller, water and
a sweaty towel...which I AM NOT throwing in!

PWM: A scrambled egg with crumbled bacon.  Quick, delicious and enough protein to get me through till lunch.

Lunch: Babysitting so I packed everything in plastic containers and assembled it while the little man I was watching played Jenga.  We ate lunch together and I have to tell you, I was completely content with my salad and had no desire for even a taste of his Spaghetti O's...one of my all time favorites.  The salad was epic...tons of greens, red peppers, onion, cucumber, pico, cilantro, fresh squeezed lime juice, topped with 2 chicken breasts (leftover from Wednesday night) and one avocado's worth of homemade guac.  Super delicious and really filling.  Ended the meal with an orange...you can see the remnants below.

Snacking: Though my salad was huge and filling, it still wasn't a lot of calories...I mean besides the chicken and guac, I was just eating water in vegetable form...not a lot of calories there.  Got hungry earlier than expected so pulled out some tuna (made with W30 approved mayo) and a mango kombucha.  If I need snacks later (like, after dog walking and swimming with the girls) I'll have a fruit/nut bar and mango salad.  I also have the veggie sides from dinner last night.

Snacking: Ate my fruit and nut bar on the drive to the pool after picking up the girls from school.

Workout: Swam 1400 yards while the girls played a mermaid game in the lane next to me.

PWM: Enjoyed my mango salad on the ride home from the pool.

Dinner: Scrambled together the remainder of my onions and peppers from my "fajita" scramble and added a bunch of asparagus I roasted yesterday with two eggs.  Finished up the tuna I started earlier but topping a baby cucumber with it.  And also added some kale salad which I didn't actually eat.  Was too full.

Workout: Trampoline time with some of my fave Moody students

PWM: I brought fruit and nut bars for everyone as well as nuts and a little dried fruit.  Then we stopped for Bubble Tea and Chiptole on the way home.  Josh is also doing Whole30 so he and I sat and discussed how things are going so far while the rest of the gang ordered and enjoyed their bubble teas.  It wasn't really that hard to abstain from ordering food but I realized I was snacking on the nuts and fruit when I wasn't even hungry.  Josh and I talked about how its so hard to not be a social eater.  Its such a habit to eat just because other people are and though neither of us were hungry there we sat eating nuts anyway...definitely an area that needs a little attention and a lot of prayer.

Sorry it's blurry, it was pitch black in the car
and this is the best I could do.

Josh and our almost empty bag of nuts...
and we weren't even hungry :\

Thoughts:
I'm still super impressed that I recognized when I wasn't actually hungry last night.  Praise God!  The ship is righting itself!  Ok...God is righting the ship...

I had so much energy last night and I think my body is finally adjusting to what is going on.  I think that upping my portion size midweek also helped a lot.  Between putting in different fuel and starting a crazy workout routine my body just freaked out a little and went into hibernation mode...but I wouldn't be stopped.  Here we are, already to Day 5!

It's going to be a busy one, so I'm glad I got all my food figured out last night.  My lunch and snacks for the day were packed and ready to go when I got up today!

The Insanity workout today was brutal...Pure Cardio...and he's not messing around.  It was intense but manageable.  I modified some of the stuff because I was crumpling to the floor and he's big on keeping your form at any cost.  It went by quickly (I guess that's what happens when you're busting through moves so rapidly) and I was really glad that yesterday was the "recovery" day.

Still a long day ahead of me with dog walking, taking the girls swimming (I usually swim 1,500 yards) and trampoline jumping tonight...lots of snacks packed!

I definitely did too much today. I'll pay for it tomorrow when I meet up with Shaun T for our last Insanity workout of the week.  Eating-wise, I am pleased with how prepared I was and that I didn't stray from my plan.  I do think I tend to eat whatever I brought whether I'm hungry or not.  Need to continue to focus on only eating when I'm actually hungry but it's still such a blurry line right now.

I'm exhausted.  Ready for a relaxing Saturday (after Insanity that is) and planning next week's meals.

Day 5, you ain't got nothin on me!
