Monday, April 1: Day 1

Convenient that April 1st is a Monday.  It's always best to start things on a Monday.  Or the first of the month.  So much the better when they coincide!  (Is my serious "Type A" side coming out yet?)

I was off all last week because the girls I nanny were out of town for spring break.  They are back today but still not back to school until tomorrow, so my first day on Whole30 is not a normal work day for me.  I do best with routine and any little thing that varies from my normal schedule provides a chance for temptation to creep in.  Luckily though, the girls being home today allows me the ability to cook a leisurely breakfast, lunch and dinner for myself.

I've also decided to start the "Insanity" workout program today.  I borrowed the DVD's from a friend a few weeks ago but I've only gotten as far as looking at the stack every few days and cringing.  One of my roomies (Desi, the new one) said she's try a video with me Tuesday evening...I thought, perfect, I might as well do the Fit Test Monday (it being the 1st and all) and just get this thing underway.

My prayer for today is that God would go before me and remove obstacles from my path, and go alongside me to strengthen me against temptation when it arises.  Heavenly Father, please help me to focus on improving my spiritual health in these areas (food and exercise) and not get caught up in worrying about physical appearance.

I'll update this post at the end of the day with what I ate...pics and all, and how my Insanity "Fit Test" went.

----------------------------------------------------------My Day---------------------------------------------------

Workout: The Insanity Fit Test was, well, Insane.  I'm not sure how I'm going to actually do the workouts-the 25 minute fit test about killed me!

Definitely a good workout though!

Breakfast: Paleo Pancakes made with toasted pecans and coconut, topped with fresh berries and more coconut/pecans.  One and a half pieces of bacon (killed me not to eat all 3 I cooked, but saving the rest for another meal down the road) and a green smoothie made from: half a banana, mini cucumber, lots of kale, spinach, 1 strawberry, 1 pineapple slice, a cutie, coconut water, mint leaves and ice.

Lunch: I waited far too long to eat and was quite irritable and hangry by the time I sat down, But it was worth the wait.  I had sweet potato hash with sautéed spinach topped with two over-medium eggs and half an avocado.  I should have eaten a little more, maybe some zucchini or something too.  Oh well, live and learn!

Snacking: I sipped on this Mango Kombucha throughout the afternoon.

Workout: I went on a jog this afternoon with my girl Emily and the dogs that belong to the families we work for.  The kids were off school today so they played at the park while we ran around it.  I'm not sure how far we went but we did about 13 laps total around the park, 10 of which I ran jogged.

Dinner: I am attempting to make my dinners as close as possible to the dinners I make for the girls.  I think I succeeded tonight with this:

My dinner: Lemon salmon with broccoli and spinach-pesto spaghetti squash.

Their dinner: Parm crusted salmon, broccoli and creamy pesto cheese tortellini.

I also made some more fruit/nut bars today.  I tried the cherry coconut recipe.  Haven't tasted them yet but I'm looking forward to it when I need a quick snack after a workout or something.

I'm finishing the night off with a cup of tea-Tazo Sweet Cinnamon Spice.  Super delicious and tastes like dessert.

Thoughts:

I'm still hungry.  I just don't think I ate enough for my activity level today.  I should have eaten breakfast much sooner, and lunch as well.  I think my dinner portion was ok but I am still feeling hungry 2 ours later.  I'll have some more water and if this persists, I'll have an apple or a few almonds.  Gonna try to stave it off though.

I also need to slow down my eating.  I eat much to quickly and I think if I savored my food a little more I would feel more satisfied.  Like I could sip on that green smoothie over the course of an hour or so, but I usually suck it down in about 3 minutes.  That's definitely an area I can work on.

Also need to seek God throughout the day.  I got so caught up in what I was making and that I was following the plan and forgot to seek him when I felt hungry or frustrated.  I'll try again tomorrow.

How was your 1st day?

**Starting tomorrow (April 2) this blog will be posting in the evening, with what I ate that day.  If you need a read for the morning, check out my other blog here.  It posts each day at 7:30am Central time.
